SCULPTURES
I am presenting this portfolio of my sculptures in discrete sections, following the chronological order of their begetting.
They fall roughly into two formal categories, which sometimes overlap: figurative and abstract. These terms, though used often, are problematic and slippery. A "figurative" image may be representational and illusionistic and still use abstract shapes. An "abstract" image may suggest a real object, like a face or a body, that is, a figure. A disk may be the full moon, and it may just be a geometric shape. It's more often "this and that" than "this or that". Over time my sculptures sorted themselves into citizens of the land of the Figurative and the land of the Abstract, with a large population in the land of the Hybrid. |
