MY (VERY BRIEF) BIO

1938
My Hungarian parents live in Budapest, and as Jews they worry about the rise of Nazism. They decide to have their first child born in England to secure the advantage and possible protection of a British passport.   
   October             
      I am born in London.  
   November       
      My parents return to Budapest, taking me along. 
1939   
   September 1   
      Germany invades Poland – the Start of WWII.  Hungary is an ally of Germany.  
1944  
   March                
      Hitler invades and occupies Hungary; massive deportation and killing of Hungarian Jews. 
   June                    
      My brother Paul is born in Budapest.
1945     
   February            
      Russians liberate Budapest after a brutal siege of the city with over 200,000 dead in 50  days. 
1949     
   January             
       My family leaves Budapest and arrives in New York City in March.
   September       
      My education in New York begins: Public elementary and junior high school; 
      High School of Music and Art; Columbia College, BA ,1961.
1961     
   June                     
      I marry Ruth Cahn and we move to Cambridge, MA.  
1963     
   June                     
      Harvard School of Education, MAT, 1963.    
   August                
      We drive to Berkeley, CA.  
   September       
      I start teaching at Lone Mountain College, San Francisco (1963-1977). 
1965     
   March                
      Our daughter Maia is born.     
      I teach in the graduate program at San Francisco State College (1965-1968).  
1968      
   April                    
      Our son Michael is born.   
1978      
   August                
      We move to Mendocino, CA. and live in our self-designed and (partially) self-built house on the coast. 
1993      
   September         
      Ruth and I move to San Francisco… still there.
