TRIAD 1987
Triad 24" x 38"
This was an unusual commission – the site and size were given but not the image or theme.
Old friends who were living in Vermont wanted a mosaic over their cooking stove as a decorative backsplash. They sent me a sheet of paper of the exact size showing the placement of the two notches where the windowsills protruded into the rectangle. These notches can be seen cutting into the third and fourth tiles from the bottom of the border on either side of the mosaic. I mounted the mosaic on a tempered (waterproof) hardboard with waterproof mastic that fit the space exactly.

The image of the creature came from a drawing I had made to illustrate a fairy tale that featured a three-headed-dragon. In the mosaic I made the faces more benign and the gestures of the limbs are dance-like.
